Don't Hire a Software Developer Until You Read this Book The handbook for tech startups entrepreneurs from idea to build to product launch and everything in between 1 KN Kukoyi eBook

It's only obvious if you've heard it all before. Covers many of the basics of starting a software focused startup company. Awesome leaping off point to hunt for more detail. Great way to get everyone on your team onto the same page, not just for a non-technical team leader. Costs less for the digital edition than a cup of coffee for a half hour interview with an experienced developer or entrepreneur. Will open up the opportunity to have difficult conversations your team has been putting off or didn't even realize you needed to have and make them a ton easier.

Good:
Step by step guide
Strong focus on action
Fairly comprehensive
Links to tools with explanations for why they are useful
Simple terms for complicated concepts
Many of the ideas can be broadly applied to other startups or development projects

Bad:
Too broad to be deep, could always use more on each section (like whole books)
Somewhat disjointed structure for simplification
Doesn't do all the work for me

Ugly:
Fourty-four words on the cover, probably could have done some user testing on that to make it more concise or at least try to have some obvious bit to shorten it to

Don't Hire a Software Developer Until You Read this Book The handbook for tech startups entrepreneurs from idea to build to product launch and everything in between 1 KN Kukoyi eBook Reviews

I am a double major in entrepreneurship and marketing at my university and this book was SUPER valuable! The tech side of entrepreneurship always frightens me because I never know if I am going to be taken advantage of because of lack of knowledge about the industry. Thanks for helping me sleep at night!
Looking for the answers to all of your software development questions, in one place? From market research, to business plans, to customer service, this book covers a lot more than just software! Written by a person who obviously knows how to guide you from just an idea, to a finished product. Many of the ideas are transferable to any online business. A worthwhile resource book packed with links and sources.
This book ended so much frustration, confusion and solved many unquestioned answers. I made a mistake to hire a developer without knowing too much about how to manage the app development process. after the developer made a bad job and I lost few hundred dollars, I really wanted to start the process again, this time I wanted to be more involved. The scariest and hardest part in managing people in a technical project when you're not a technical guy is that you don't know what you don't know. There's also other pitfalls (like accounting and legal stuff). this book goes through not only the technical development of an app but also goes in-depth about the business-side of developing a software, MVP, etc.
THANK YOU K.N Kukoyi, it was exactly what I needed.
The only problem with this book is that it didn’t come sooner. As an entrepreneur who went through this process blind, I can tell you that this book is a must have for any business in this day and age. This book would have prevented me from several mistakes that cost $$$. I like that Kay tells you how to vet a designer (and other positions) if you decide to hire someone to do work for you. It really takes the guess work out of it, so you can get it done right. I recommend that you read this book from cover to cover—an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Kay's book is beautiful. From the first few pages you're being directed to action - start to end. This book is the process, the step-by-step you need to launch your software company.

Dare I say... QUICKLY launch your software company? I've moved from possible idea... to finding my market.. to finding my specific "need" to fill - to collaborating with my market and gaining invaluable feedback as well as research. I'm currently in the "Prototyping" phase of my project and it's moving quickly (prototyping is usually a graveyard for entrepreneurs). I feel confident in the results gained from this book and the future. Can't say enough.

Thank You, Kay.
So I'm one of those people that "have an idea." I had no clue where to start and a few months ago, I'd reached out to a friend that knew a developer. For whatever reason, that developer never got back to me and that provided me a chance to start researching the app creation process. Of what I've read, this was one of the BEST books on the subject. Had that developer gotten back to me when I called him, I would have spent a small fortune and totally jumped the gun on the process. With the help of this book and a few other sources, I have a track to run on and feel like I have a much stronger grasp of what is in store for me. I highly recommend this book, I've got pages marked all over my copy to reference and go back and read again. Even if you have already started your process, this book can probably give you insight to what you may have overlooked (I know it showed me a lot that I hadn't thought about).
This book truly demonstrates that the democratization of software development has begun. Ever heard of SAAS or Apps? The next wave of publishing, after ebooks, is now self publishing your own apps for your business, and this is the book that can guide you through what could be a potential minefield for a non-technical or non-technical beginner. It runs the full gamut from legal protections, how to find and understand your customer, and programmer. I was fascinated to see that Agile development is also covered in this book. Having worked in IT for over 3 year, I found myself nodding enthusiastically as the steps and philosophies laid out clearly in this book. This is not a theory only book, it is packed with resources and links that can help you get started almost immediately. highly recommended.
