Dark of Night (The Man From the Yard Book 1)

The story Dark of Night (The Man From the Yard Book 1) by Marios Savva is a book that I enjoyed reading. It is a story that is suspenseful and at times chilling. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is a book that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put down until I had read the last page. I loved reading about the characters of Sheriff Jake and Jane. He is the current Sheriff of Whitesands. He is a man that attractive and intelligent. The officers that he works with respect him and he is known to have his own style when apprehending criminals. What is happening in Whitesands is bordering on the chaotic and has Jake on his most challenging case ever. Will he be able to stop what causes destruction to any who try to stop it? Jane is a girl who is being followed. She feels fear and knows that when around her others are in danger. I felt empathy for Jane as she lives with a burden that is overwhelming and at times terrifying. She is in need of someone to protect her. I also enjoyed reading about Chief. He is Jake’s deputy and best friend. They are more like brothers and the bonds between them are strong. These two rely on each other. I enjoyed reading about the humorous way that they interact with each other. Read this book to find out if Jake and Chief uncover just who is causing the destruction in their town and if they are able to stop it. There are parts in this book that are heartbreaking and others that had me smiling. It is a story that is wonderfully written and one that I would recommend reading. It is the first book in a series and I look forward to reading the next one.

Dark of Night The Man From the Yard Book 1 edition by Marios Savva Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Dark of the Night, kept me on edge, it was an easy read, and the characters were easy to like. I really liked Cheif and was very sad when he was killed, it would have been better in my opinion, to have kept him in the book to continue on with Jake in future books. As far as Jane goes, well, I don't know how old she is supposed to be, but she came accross as a 14 year old, not a young women, I understand she had been through quite alot, but she came accross as very immature , always crying, and hitting. The romance that happened between Jane and Jake was way to quick and not beleivable . I did love the book, and was dissapointed that I finished it so quickly, but Marios Savva, did a great job writing this story, and scaring me.
This fast-paced book really pulls you in and at times I found myself holding my breath as I waited to find out what would happen. At other times I found myself wiping away a tear - always the sign of a good book that's got you gripped. I really liked the dark storyline and although I got a bit fed up with Jane's almost constant crying, I actually liked the characters too. I did find the frequency with which the characters used the names of the people they were speaking too unrealistic and frankly a little annoying, as was the amount of times the author seemed to feel the need to remind you of who'd said or done something in the past, like he didn't really trust you to remember for yourself. Despite these little niggles I did truly enjoy the story and could imagine it making a good film too
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. This is brilliant. It's dramatic and scary and funny. The writing is not always great, I rolled my eyes more than a few times, and sometimes the characters are written in a way that makes them seem like young teenagers instead of adults, it's really an amazing, intriguing and intense story. I read the first few chapters in the middle of the night, which was a bad idea because Ouija boards scare me, but I got so engrossed in it I couldn't put it down. At times it is very Stephen King-ish, and others times it's like being in middle school listening to kids talk to each other. And on top of all the scary and suspenseful stuff there is also an awkward love story. All in all, if you like scary, this is a must to be added to your TBR list.
I got this book as a free ebook download. I want my money back.Seriously, there are so many problems with this book, it is hard to know where to begin. The main character, Jake, is an Englishman, now living in America. In almost every chapter, we are told how clever, how brave and how beloved he is.It was like being beaten over the head with a stick. All the characters were more caricatures and cliched, as was the dialog. Several of the American characters spoke with English slang, and the dialog was not realistic. Throughout the book, spelling was inconsistent, with the same word spelled in American English one time and British English the next. The most offensive piece was the character "Chief", who was alternately referred to as Native Indian and Native American Indian, mostly as Native Indian. What I found highly offensive was his nickname - Chief - when his real name was Bobby. Obviously, the author is unaware that chief was used as a derogatory racial slur. All the characters lack depth, as the multiple lengthy descriptions are repeats of the first one and add no new information. The relationships are forced and unbelievable - especially the sudden "love" between Jake and Jane - when he ignores her for an hour, she is convinced he doesn't love her - I mean, seriously? how neurotic can she be. Urgently needed is also a copy editor and a THESAURUS! In several places the same word or phrase is used multiple times in a short span - as in 4 times in 2 sentences. Also, random quote marks are throughout the book - not for dialog, but to point out certain words or phrases, but they make no sense. The plot was decent, but the whole book felt like an oral story written down verbatim and never polished. It would be a good effort for a junior high school student, but too poorly written for anyone over the age of 12. Will I read this author again? if you have to ask you didn't pay attention.
